Lawn care for Dallas St. Augustine and Bermuda

Northridge Landscaping mows, feeds and treats residential lawns across Dallas, Plano, Frisco and Richardson, on a schedule built for North Texas grass.

How should a Dallas lawn be cared for?

Most Dallas lawns are St. Augustine or Bermuda, and they want different things. St. Augustine does best mowed at 3 to 4 inches and handles some shade under live oaks. Bermuda likes full sun and a shorter cut of 1 to 2 inches. Both grow hard from April to October and go dormant or slow down after the first freeze.

Our lawn program follows that season: pre-emergent weed control in February and September, feeding after spring green-up, mowing and edging every week through summer, and a watering plan that fits the City of Dallas twice-weekly schedule. Clippings are mulched back in unless you ask us to bag them.

How often should I water my lawn in Dallas?

Water deeply no more than twice a week on your assigned days, early in the morning, and never between 10am and 6pm from April through October. About an inch a week, rain included, is enough for most St. Augustine and Bermuda lawns. Shallow daily watering grows shallow roots that burn out in August.
