Tree and shrub care, pruned the right way
Northridge Landscaping prunes and shapes trees and shrubs on residential lots across Dallas, Plano, Frisco and Richardson, timed to protect oaks from oak wilt.
When should trees be pruned in Dallas?
Timing matters most for oaks. Oak wilt spreads through fresh cuts in spring, so the Texas A&M Forest Service advises against pruning oaks from February through June. We prune live oaks and red oaks in the cooler months outside that window and paint every cut.
Crape myrtles are shaped in late winter by thinning out crossing and inward growth, never by cutting the trunks back to knuckles. Shrubs are pruned to their natural form, and we raise canopies so grass and beds below get light.
When to call us
- Branches over the roof, driveway or sidewalk
- Crape myrtles that were topped and grow back weak
- Shrubs covering windows or crowding the walkway
- Thin grass under a dense live oak canopy

How do I look after trees in a Dallas drought?
Established trees still need a deep soak every couple of weeks in a dry summer. Run a soaker hose or drip ring slowly at the drip line, not at the trunk, and keep mulch a few inches away from the bark. Call us if leaves brown along the veins on an oak.
